The Pontian Greek Society of Chicago “Xeniteas” was founded in November 1977 by Pontian Greek immigrants from Greece and the former Soviet Union. Its mission is to preserve and share the unique heritage, history, language, and traditions of the Pontian Greeks — descendants of a 3,000-year-old civilization from the historic Pontus region of Asia Minor.
Through education, community events, and vibrant cultural programs, Xeniteas keeps Pontian traditions alive for new generations and the broader public. Central to this work are the society’s traditional music and dance programs, which celebrate the distinctive rhythms, songs, and folk dances of Pontian culture.
Today, the Xeniteas dance troupe proudly performs authentic Pontian folk dances at the Wheeling Cultural Festival, sharing the color, energy, and living spirit of their heritage with the community. We warmly invite you to experience this beautiful cultural legacy with us!
