Originally formed in 1972 on the island of Jamaica in 1972, the The West Indian Dance Theater Company is a traditional island folklore and Afro-modern/contemporary dance, song, roots drumming and theater performance group. The company shares, preserves and bears the culture of all of the West Indian islands like Jamaica, Trinidad/Tobago, Barbados, the Bahamas, Haiti, Puerto Rico and Cuba. This is done through education and performance. Today, we will take you on a short journey of living artifacts of these Afro and Latin Caribbean islands through movement music and song to share its proud tradition of Carnival and to help you imagine or remember the lush fauna and natural sweet vegetation of the islands.
